Hey flughuas, the early F4U (birdcage) had a landing light like you mentioned. It was eliminated with the -1A and was put on the leading edge as another poster noted. I'll see if I can dig up some pictures or drawings or visit my free F4U Corsair Forum noted below.

I have a question about the usage of the recognition lights.
I read that they may have been used to prevent friendly fire on them when returning to base.
Does anyone have any info as to exactly what they were used for and how? For example, did the code for the day indicate that they flashed...
Why 1/2 scale? Check out corsair82.com. I believe it explains why he chose 82%. I believe 1/2 scale would be difficult for the average pilot to get into.

Yes, and "incomplete" is an understatement. It needs a lot of work, but for someone as passionate as I am about restoring them it would be a labor of love.
