    What's this?

Late to the discussion, I think it's a T-6 modified to represent a Aeronavale Bearcat of Dien Bien Phu vintage. But whatta I know? Simba.

    I-16 landing gear

One of the clever features in Il-2 is its reproduction of cockpit operations that weren't automated and had to be done by hand - the I-16's hand-wound undercarriage is a great example. I'm still waiting for someone to code the Hurricane's emergency hydraulic pump though. ;) Simba.

    Were kamikazes effective?

Kamikaze effective? Sure, it sank ships when conventional attacks couldn't because it was so difficult to deter a pilot who was totally focused on hitting his target. An aircraft that got through the defences was going to damage anything it hit to some extent. But more effective still would...

IJAAF/RAF aircraft over Hong Kong; December 1941

I'd recommend you contact the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton, Somerset. It holds the most comprehensive records of RN aircraft in the world. One proviso: most Naval Air Squadrons existed only for the duration of a ship's commission and were disbanded on its completion, so many records have...

    Luftwaffe glider tugs at Eben-Emel

Evening, chaps. I'd be much obliged if anybody could tell me what type of aircraft the Luftwaffe used to tow the DFS 230 gliders into action against the Belgian fortress of Eben-Emel in May 1940. And if you could provide any pictures of the aircraft actually used? Thanks. <hoists...

    Greetings from Bristol, UK.

Greetings from Bristol, birthplace of so many splendid British aeroplanes. This ol' cat has finally bitten the bullet and joined you WW2 types; some of you might recall me from DoA days? <S>, all. :salute: Simba.
