is the story of churchill being in the Nelson when a type 2 tried to torpedo it accurate?what if the germ had good torpedos(like the long lance)I know the lance was 24 inch dia.not 21 inch like germ torp.but couldn't they modify their subs for this?what effect overall for the period before...
Notes on oper.sealion.
Germans couldn't have done it because(list reasons here)
They invaded Crete a year later. With just a fraction of thier total strength.A longer crossing too.Took huge percentage losses.
Victory.
British isles were a much larger prize.
Note the Germans fought...
sorry but I still think you are wrong...small size equals quick response time?also equals less "strategic depth",quicker to overrun. The forces sent to crete would have overwhelmed the small garrison on malta very fast.As for naval forces...didn't the luft sink aircraft carriers, battleships etc...
You guys are giving too much credit to a possible defense of malta.Late in 1940/early 1941 the defences on the island were almost non-existant(saw it on World at War I believe)only a handful of planes, literally and almost no troops(a few battalions?)And if invaded b4 crete, than no lessons to...
free fall bomb accuracy.Didn't louis alvarez, the same physicist who developed the theory of an asteroid killing the dinosaurs(and who also worked in the manhattan project during the war I believe)develop a blind bombing system at the end of the war that was like 95%accurate in hitting the target??
The idea that "the more wgt.for the guidance system, the less wgt for explosives&incendiaieries"is an easy "equation"to solve:
A multi ton bomb(say) that misses by hundreds of yards is worth less than a five hundred pound bomb(say)that hits the target.I appreciate all the replies, just didn't get...
Read that the germams worked on t.v. guided bombs, even managed to produce a few of them by early 1944,but,they were impractical to mass produce because of great difficulties in miniturizing the components. This may sound dumb, but why didn't they just make the components larger and put them on the...
A german bomber, used to bomb from an (at 1st)unreachable altitude. Then the british modified a (?)Spitfire, which went up and shot it down. This type of hi-altitude plane was not seen again.Anyone know anything about this plane?Have no idea what it was.TIA
