Thanks for that Bobbysocks. It is a long way from where I live in England so I don't think it is feasible for me to get there, but I do have a group member that lives not 20 miles from the site. Perhaps you could PM me so we can chat further ?
That would be very nice of you bobbysocks. It wouldn't happen to be Steeple Morden would it? I did locate one of the dumps for that base a few months back but it is in the middle of a nature reserve :( :( Always wanted to search the main base there..... :)
All relics are cleaned, preserved and then displayed in our own personal collections. We exhibit our collections at military shows up and down the country, most notably War Peace and The Victory Show.
Hi all
Members of my group, (WW2 Relic Retrieval Preservation Group (RRPG)), have recently been digging an old RAF airbase dump, the same site we visited back in March. We made some more amazing discoveries, most of which can be seen in the below video.
Relics recovered of note...
Thanks guys :) I was amazed at the number of bomb pistol/fuzes we recovered. Also found other bits not covered in the video, such as a cockpit light switch from a Lancaster and a radio frequency dial with all the graduations still on it :)
Hi all
I wanted to share with you the work of the WW2 Relic Retrieval Preservation Group (RRPG), and their recent visit to an RAF airbase dump.
The dump was located after some extensive research, landowner contacted and permission gained to dig the dump. After an initial visit to survey...
Got the little bugger !!!!!!!!
De Havilland Mosquito NF 2. :) :) :) :) Perfect match, even down to a strange welded square patch with a hole through it just above the first port.
I am WELL chuffed :)
Many thanks for your help guys :)

Hi all
Another ground dug piece of aircraft I need some help with. I initially thought this was a Merlin engine exhaust manifold but I have been unable to confirm this. The portion that joins the engine certainly appears to be the right shape and size for a Merlin exhaust manifold gasket, (of...
Ok, tubes and mesh positively IDd
The mesh is from an Allison engine carb (P38 lightning) and the tubes are indeed 50cal barrel tubes (Blast tubes), from a P38 Lightning. Pictures showing tubes and mesh below......
In the second picture you can clearly see where the tube attaches to the MG...
Hi All
I have been recovering relics again from a USAAF airbase and have two items that I need help on.
The first I believe is from inside the carburetor of either a Allison or Merlin engine, just need help on IDing which one. (Only P38s and P51s were based at the old airfield where these...
Holy cow I found the little buggers !!
You were dead right Kingscoy. Those rings are the bottom portion of a No 42 bomb nose/tail fuse.
I'm so pleased ! :) :)
Thanks guys :)

Kingscoy - Interesting you should say that. You're now the second person to suggest they are something to do with ordnance. Curiously, I did also find a lot of tail pistols, (types No. 28 and No. 30 mark IV and V) at the site as well, only a couple of feet away from these 'caps'. The lot numbers...
