I'd say the P-40. ALWAYS overshadowed by the P-38, P-51, or other aircraft. But it flew on all fronts, and it looked cool.

There is an thread here on overrated aircraft, so I figured i'd give a thread of underrated aircraft of WW2 a try. I think the P-40 Warhawk(my favorite plane,BTW :) ) was very underrated. It was considered inferior to Zeros and German fighter, and later in the war was replaced by the P-51...

I say the Mosquito was the best bomber.

I would be a pilot with the Flying Tigers. P-40s are cool.

I agree the Zero was overrated, but i'd also have to nominate the IL-2. It was poorly made in mass numbers and only completed missions because there were so many swarming the skies.

Best bomber? Has anyone considered, in terms of importance to the outcome of the war, The Dauntless Dive Bomber?

quite the story. I bet the bomber would have been blown out of the sky as soon as it got within range of the German AA guns.(my 1st post! :D ) :bazooka: :tomcat: :rightfighter7: ^germans
