A Canadian Legend Passed Away Today

Though out of the limelight for many years, millions of Canadians remember Howie and mourn his passing. Gordie Howe and Howie Meeker entered the NHL in 1946-47. Gordie scored 7 goals 15 assists, Howie netted 27 goals and 18 helpers. Guess who was awarded the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the...

Which was the better carrier jet fighter, Supermarine Attacker or FJ-1 Fury?

Let's see.....the Attacker is more powerful, lighter, faster, better climb to higher ceiling, more heavily armed. The Fury can fly farther. I dunno, tough call. Maybe the experts can weigh in here.

Is the Helldiver better than the Helldiver?

After adding another gun, self sealing tanks, and other equipment it was heavier and slower than the already slow SBD-2. Though still a good aircraft the SBD-3 was sometimes derisively called Speedy Three.

    Most Overrated aircraft of WWII.....?

Black coffee through the nose has a real kick and adds a sour bouquet with prolonged, bitter aftertaste. It's an acquired taste....recommended for experienced snorters only.

    Paint questions

Acrylics do not "cure" like enamels. They dry from the outside first. If the paint is VERY thick it will skin over and the lower layer is sealed off, so drying time will be a bit long! I don't believe that just brushing on a coat of acrylic paint should be called priming.

How badly would a plane like this perform?

Designing and mounting a new wing on an elderly aircraft like the Hurricane would be a pointless exercise. Yes, it was kept in production for a long period during the war but this was only because the facilities were up and running. It's time had past; it was of an older generation (wooden...

I think I screwed up somehow. The reference to a website was that of "ronerem" who was attempting to sell on this site. I hope this straightens it out,; my post was not meant to refer to you in any way.

    Hans Ulrich Rudel, Tank Destroyer...

Hey lesofprimus, I hope I didn't go overboard with my rant. It was good of you to give a well reasoned reply and I'd like you to know that that I believe there are some great stories, comments, and insights here. I'd love to contribute on this site myself and not just be a grumpy old man...

    Hans Ulrich Rudel, Tank Destroyer...

I signed up here with the hope that there would be useful information to be gleaned coming from thoughtful people. What a disappointment it has been to read the profane rants of what sound like children on a playground replete with ignorance, threats, bullying, and boasting. I don't wish to...

The best fighter of the 1950's.

The aircraft that actually did the most (shoot down enemy aircraft) to deserve to be called the best would have to be the F-86. It also bested the Hunter in air to air during the Pakistan vs. India war.
