    Flying Boeing P-26 Peashooter

So cool! What is the process of returning a plane like that to flight after a few years?

What if the Germans had radar proximity fused AA shells?

this is really the key comment. They didn’t make this stuff because they couldn’t. A handful of wonder jets they could do. Some terror rockets. Tens of thousands of sophisticated shells? No hope. They didn’t have the raw materials. They didn’t have the factories. They didn’t have the...

    Focke Wulf light fighter

Adding lightness is difficult. Add it incorrectly and you are just creating weakness. Given the forced labor and late-stage losing the war syndrome it seems unlikely they could have done it. Seen various references to the jet program being impacted by quality issues. It really can’t be...

Air cooled inline engines - a missed opportunity?

In very basic terms, it is much more straightforward to plumb water where you want it and at the rate and volume needed.

Air cooled inline engines - a missed opportunity?

Shoving a lot of air, and a powerful engine needs a lot of air, through a small frontal area creates a lot of drag. It also isn’t going to work well if there isn’t a lot of air, such as climbing at slower speed.

Air cooled inline engines - a missed opportunity?

I replaced the air cooled flat 4 in my Vanagon with a water cooled inline 4. About the same displacement and nearly double the horsepower. HP correlates to heat and you have to do something with that heat. I could have gotten the same power and stayed air cooled, but it would have been more...

    Was Operation Ironclad necessary?

Germany could certainly have used Madagascar ports, for that matter. Did not have to be Japan.

Dec 7, 1941. The USN is at sea. What does IJN do now?

I have been floating around in a US Navy ship around Hawaii. The Pacific is very big. Going to be hard for the Japanese to find them. Do they really want to be on the wrong side of Oahu looking?

1946 Av Week Article on The DM-1

Weird error in this article. Is says 200 kph is 1250 mph, off by a factor of 10. Seems like something that should have been caught. Also what are the dates for all this alleged work? Finally “pick-a-back”? Is that a regional term?
