hello,
on the starboard side of the Hurricane there is a hatch below the cockpit window. Since the pilots enter the cockpit from the port side, I wonder what this hatch is good for? I haven't seen a photo with this hatch - or door - open (eg. like on a Spitfire, where it is on the port side)...
I think these times mentioned were the tank-stops during their mission. Usually the aircraft was refueled at Wick or Shetland and then the 'journey' starts.
Thank you very much. That's exactly what I am looking for. My first guess was NS504 as Dodd/Hill already flew two PR missions up north in July. They each flew the NS504 model. But now it's clear: NS637.
BTW an interesting link to the squadron ORB.
When visiting the Tirpitz museum near Tromsø, I became aware of a picture by Ph. West. It shows a Mosquito PR.XVI of the 544 Sqn (pilot F. Dodd, P/O E. Hill) on her mission to Tromsø on 03/22/45 to photograph the Tirpitz. Although there are some stories and details about this mission I have not...
no problem for me, but very interesting story parallel to my question. I knew that the British pilots were for training in Canda or the USA but I didn't know of the paddle wheel carriers.
As for the photo, the second one on the greyscale picture is very interesting: it is from the 882 Sqn and it...
yes please @Mlflyer
this could be a first step for my model. If the photo is from August, then there are only a few weeks in between and the camouflage pattern and national emblems will not have changed yet as for the Pacific.
You may post the photo to this thread or if it is of high resolution...
hello, I am searching for information about British Wildcats involved in the operation Tungsten on April 1944. So far I found pictures and informations to build a Fairey Barracuda and a Corsair but none for a Wildcat. The Wildcats and Hellcats are attacking the Tirpitz' AAF and they belong to...
I've been in contact with a French historian (Yannick Delefosse), he sent drawings of the two devices and now I could scratch build the Dampferzeuger (steam generator) and the Anlassgerät (starting device).
Eventually I put all the things together on a diorama.
Here you see a comparison of the...
thanx Glenn for this information,
I haven't been here for a while since the discussions turned over to British bombers and where to bail out positions.
Regarding my question and my story I'm following: I have collected almost any stories about that mission. The situation for the crew must be...
Thanxs MiTasol,
I know of the first document (and I can read it) but the second one is new to me. I will follow the mentioned book section.
However there is nowhere a drawing with the dimensions of the steam generator. But I will come closer to what I am searching for step-by-step.
Thank you
not sure if this is the correct place, but can anyone help me finding drawings of the ramp catapult for the V1, it is also called Dampferzeuger, Walter-Schleuder or 'Kinderwagen'. And I am searching for drawings of the starter device (Anlass Anlage) which is placed at the side of the V1 if...
There is a story of an eyewitness (he was about 4 years old then). He describes that the dead copilot was found near the farmhouse "Weiershüsli" about 300 meters away from the farmhouse in "Üetwilen" where the airmen were kept. Maybe someone of them had to identify the copilot and then he saw...
but in all statements it is mentioned that he did not pull his ripcord. So what does this phrase mean then?
I would assume that someone had found the dead body with a parachute attached to it. Or does this sentence have a special meaning, something like a coded term among aviators?
hello again and thank you for your comments and inputs so far,
my question here was because there are controversial discussions about the death of a crew member of the Jackpine Joe bomber that crashed in Switzerland in 1944. The crew bailed out but one man died.
One statement is that the...
