    Wendover Airfield UT B-24 bombers

These are not really good "up close" but this is what I have initially anyway - 494th BG. When I get to more I will post them! Tom P.

how much to buy and run a war bird

There are 2 P-51s available on Courtesy Aircraft ranging between 1.3M and 3M US! Of course the purchase price is really just the price of admission. From discussions on other forums a P-51 will cost you roughly about $400 US to fly per hour. Tom P.

    Pilot seating in fighters

It seems like I remember reading in "Higher Calling" where the Germans had thier ground crews stuffed into the ME-109 fuselage storage spaces to help everyone get out of Africa to Italy - maybe I am remembering wrong though. . .

Heating, ventilating, and comfort in WW2-era combat aircraft

So in my very limited experience here is what I can add - hope it is worth something. The B-17 can be down right HOT sitting on the ramp in 80 degree weather. In the nose with the all the plexi it feels even warmer. Once you take off everything gets far more comfortable. Now mind you this...

How would the Allies have dealt with large numbers of ME 262s?

This assumes that the 262's engines were reliable. From what I have read they were good for little more than perhaps 2-3 short sorties and extremely sensitive to pilot inputs (too much throttle to fast burned them up). By the time the 262 appeared I think it was too late. And, being somewhat...

Poor flight discipline and use of checklists in different WW2 AFs (20% accidents!)

Quick reply - I think perhaps it is my interest to get a little beyond the pure statistics. In reviewing crash reports you might find that some accidents were the fault of missing something obvious (folded wings) and something that just plain failed (nose gear in the B-24 comes to mind). Do...

Poor flight discipline and use of checklists in different WW2 AFs (20% accidents!)

Great topic - my only concern is that I do not see very many primary sources (specifically interviews) listed as references - did I just miss that? I agree that training was an issue. Having done research at Maxwell AFB mainly looking at training accident records for B-17 and B-24 aircraft...

    censored photos of aircraft

Hello - I am new to the site and this thread caught my eye. I have seen a number of censored photos of "silverplate" B-29s while the 509th CG was stationed here in Wendover, Utah; they were all "doctored" to remove any distingushing markings or features. However most of these photos were...
