Anyone have photos of the Ju188 A-2 that they can share?
I'm at a loss with how to go about differentiating the A-1 from the A-2. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only difference between the two variants was that the A-2 had MW 50 injection whereas the A-1 didn't. I don't know...
I noticed a little square opening near the start of the intake on the F2G-1 Super Corsair.
I have highlighted the opening with a red box on the attached image. This is the only image I could find where the opening was clearly visible.
Any ideas on what this is for? And can it be opened/closed...
I have noticed that some aircraft, like the P-47D-22 RE, can have different props even across the same variant.
Does anyone know what type of prop the F4U-4 used? Also, was that the only prop used for that variant? Or were there F4U-4 aircraft that used different props either due to field mods...
It was mentioned earlier in this thread that the Curtiss Electric props came in two versions on the P-47: symmetrical and assymetrical.
Does anyone know which version(s) would have been mounted on the P-47D-22-RE?
I didn't get that.
When you say "replacement, then modification", do you mean that the props on -22-RE aircraft would only have been switched from Hamilton Standards to Curtiss Electric when it was necessary to replace the prop?
Interesting. Thanks for clarifying.
So Just to make sure I understood that correctly, all -22-RE came with the Hamilton Standard props from the factory. That can only mean that any -22-RE aircraft I see with the Curtiss Electric props must have received the prop as a modification after delivery.
So for aircraft like P-47D-22-RE 42-25969, which in the attached photo appears to have a CE prop, would these props have been changed after manufacture/delivery as a field mod?
Were there any -22-RE aircraft that came from the factory with CE props?
Can anyone share wartime photos of P-47D-22-RE aircraft with the Hamilton Standard props where the aircraft s/n is clearly visible?
This one looks very good, but I believe the aircraft in the picture has a CE prop judging by the bullet shaped hub.
Thank you!
That's some very good information. Thank you!
Could both the -59 and -63 engines take either HS or CE screws provided that the correct governor was installed?
Would a switch from HS to CE props require an engine change from -59 to -63?
Or was the prop system independent of the engine, with both engines being able to take either prop as long as the correct governor was installed?
I initially thought that the P-47D-22-RE came only with the R-2800-59 engine, but a few days ago I found an article saying something about R-2800-63 engines being retrofitted onto some P-47D-22-RE aircraft. I've been trying to find that article again to no avail... but that's besides the point...
