The aircraft that flew at this time were hardly airworthy. more aircraft on both sides were lost in landing and take off accidents than were lost in air combat .

The other myth was that it was the norm that some form of aerial chivalry was the unwritten code of practice. by 1918, that was a rare event. The tactics for both sides orbited around getting the drop on your opponent and basically shooting him in the back without him even knowing you were there. Dogfighting was something you avoided, even back then.

To be honest, the Fokker D.VII didn't have any external rigging. There were two cables for the landing gear and two lines between the fin and tops of the vertical stabilizers only. :)

Nice work indeed wayne. looks terrific.

There are a few WWI types with little or no rigging. Even the Fokker DRI of the red baron fame, the so called Fokker triplane, doesn't have a lot of rigging.

Here is a visual list of german WWI a/c, many of which have few or no cable struts, and a few also that are monoplanes. Germany was ahead of the allies in producing aircraft without cable struts

Pics tomorrow....sprayed a 10:1 Gloss/Brown on the upper Lozenge pattern of both wings to tone it down a tad as per the instructions and info via WingNut wings....didn't know about this so something learned again..:D

A Pic...the 10:1 Brown tinted 'Glaze' added to the upper wings, brings the brightness of the lozenge and blue tape down a tad...
