The first disturbing messages came through at 20.45h. Dutch army was told to be 'on their guard'.
At 11.45, CinC General Winkelman issued the order that every unit should be battle-ready at 3.00h, may 10th. During the night, the sound of many aero-enigines could be heard all over the country, going from east to west.
At 03.55, the first German soldiers crossed the border in the East. The airfield of Bergen is bombed by surptise, seriously damaging the Dutch G.1 fleet. Word War 2 has started for the Netherlands. 5 days later, the country surrenders. It would almost take exactly 5 years and many casualties for the war to end. Let us remember for ever...
