There were many targets that could be termed "panacea" targets by Harris, he did attack them. The thing is with these targets you need to hit them precisely and massively.

Indeed, despite his opinions being sometimes at variance with his orders, he was diligent in following those orders.

Ball bearing raids were very good ideas. Tough to make good engines and even small machines without ball bearings. A good rolling pin has ball bearings.

Who knew you could cause a Pizza restaurant problems with a raid on Schweinfurt?

Heck, you also need ball bearings to make beer in large quantities!

Sure, but the Germans had plenty of shelf-stock on hand, and were also getting them from Sweden, in addition to repairing the factories and getting them back in operation. Knocking that pin out of their war machine would have required something of a sustained campaign according to Speer. And of course without fighter escorts the 8th in 1943 didn't have the bomber strength to see it through.

Yes, lets make a strategy based on Germans being unable to make beer without ball bearings? What could go wrong?

Actually, I don't think rolling pins have ball bearings. Maybe simple journal bearings. Ball bearings probably collect germs.

Here is a proper rolling pin with no bearings...

Looks like a beat stick to me.
That is a traditional application of rolling pins. Note the lack of delicate bearings to get damaged in the process.

I am active in an online engineering forum. Someone proposed to design a metal rolling pin with bearings for his wife. I pointed out that bicycle and motorcycle helmets are designed to shatter on impact, dissipating energy. It is widely assumed that trees and telephone poles will not continue clobbering you.
