Reminds me of my father who is now 89, they took him off his families farm in a small town of Olszanka near Lublin and sent to work on a labor farm near Leipzig, after the war and avoiding the Russians he made his way west and thru some Polish compatriots ended up in Southern France where he worked in the ship yards as a welder in "Les Chantiers" in LaSeyne Sur Mer, Long story short he met my mother of German parents(which all 3 suffered dearly,my Grandfather was Jewish), got married, had me and in 61 took a boat and ended up in NYC.. He does not say too much but the stories about saving boots by walking barefoot to school so he would have them in the winter and putting green poppie seeds mixed with some milk to drink so they could fall asleep on empty stomachs and some of the suffering just to stay warm I've heard.Tough life that I would not like to go thru.......
