AAF Fighter insignia

The attached insignia has been more or less connected to the to the 479thFG
prior to that units overseas transition from p-38's to P-51's.

I'm trying to nail down the actual squadron within the 479th that displayed
this insignia. If anyone out there has a photo showing this design in use
(flight jacket, unit signage, etc.) I would sure appreciate seeing it posted.

I don't see that one listed for the 479th either. Are you sure it was that group?

This is probably one of those "unofficial" unit emblems/patches that many squadrons adopted, but were never approved by higher ups. Many of these "unofficial" emplems/patches did find there way onto flight jackets and in some cases as nose art. In all of my research I cannot find this particular emblem associated with the 479th FS. Nice looking one however...

the emblem is for the 435th ftr sqdn,it was thier P-38 period,they went top-51 later and the "Eagle w/Machine gun on cloud design.

There is a 435th squadron association that just started their website. These guys might be the ones to contact then for verification.
