A true great. One of those old-fashioned stars who actually were decent people and didn't strive to hog the limelight 24/7 (and he stayed married to the same woman from 1945 until his death...something of a feat in showbiz!). I never realised he was in the original cast of "The Mousetrap" in the West End. Actor, producer, director...he really did it all and his successes speak to his talents in all 3 areas.
Farewell Dickie. You were the archetypal luvvie actor but you served your country in time of war, enthralled millions with your post-war contributions on stage and screen and stood by your beliefs and principles. I wish more of today's "stars" followed your example. You will be sorely missed!
