Hi
I'm currently researching the fw190c v18 and found several remarkably clear pictures of the second prototype.
These images are show the underside of the aileron, which "appear" to be bare metal.
However, the ailerons on fw190s were fabric, could have the fw190c v18 have had metal ailerons?
Or is is simply painted white? My thinking is that much of the plane is unfinished metal.
Thanks

The enlarged pic of the kite with the aileron seen, reveals that there were quite subtle dark lines that indicate the fabric skin of the metal ailerons. The difference in the tone is just because of the fabric covering and its painting. The similar effect you may find on the elevator seen in the second enlarged shot. Of course it is possible that the paint used for the ailerons was different from the one used for the wing coat.

Although not of the greatest quality , the another shot of the plane showing her from back reveals the dark subtle lines at the aileron top as well ( especially at the left tip of the port aileron )

To sum up .. the ailerons were of the fabric skin but not of the metal covering rather.

A tad disappointing, but to be expected, thanks for the great response!

ok, another question, exactly what was the purpose of leaving the nose unpainted? As this wasn't common on German aircraft, also on the air intake the middle panel appears to be bare metal. Would there be a reason for this?
thanks again.

As memo serves the plane was rebuilt A-1 plane W.Nr. 0040. Initially the plne was going to be powered by the DB 603G engine. But the work on the power unit was delayed and K. Tank decided to use the DB603A-1 with the supercharger TK 9AC Hirth although a couple of sources say that it was the TK 11. So the fuselage was adjusted to the power set. Because the Fw 190c v18 failed they tried to modified her in order to get improved IMHO , all that caused that the plane got a couple of newly made pieces that were changed for tests in order to get better results. And that's the reason for leaving a couple of the parts unpainted.
