Maestro

Master Sergeant
Greetings ladies and gentlemen.

Wow ! Over 3,000 posts since my last visit !

Anyway, my flight to London and back went on without any problem... The only thing that bugged me was the fact that I had to pay £88.00 for a friggin taxi from Heathrow Airport to my hotel. (I wasn't going to take the tube with my bags...)

Anyway... I got something like 800 Mo of pictures and short video clips. Which are very HQ, so I had to host them on a image host to make sure I wouldn't slow down anyone surfing on this thread.

Anyway, to begin with, here is the view I had from my hotel room's window... You can see the Imperial War Museum's dome in the background.

An interresting thing : unlike in many North-American hotels, there isn't any soft drinks/candies machine anywhere in the hotel. To drink/eat something in the evening you have to go to the hotel's bar... Or grab the kettle in your bedroom and have yourself a tea or (instant) coffee.
th_69719_333_122_1029lo.jpg

Also, I think they had some problems with tourists not looking in the right direction before crossing the road...

But anyway... Here are a few more "meaningful" shots of the city.

Now, in order to take a break from pictures, here are two videos... Westminster at night and Buckingham Palace. Please note that I had to greatly reduce the size and quality of those clips in order to make them smaller... Original versions are about 30 and 40 Mo.

Hi Maestro,

Are you aware of Autostitch? AutoStitch

It's a free, fully automatic panorama generator.

I just dropped all of your St. Paul's picture into one folder and unleashed Autostitch ... result below. No manual input involved.

I just love that program :)

Henning (HoHun)

Hi again,

From the remaining 4 pictures, Autostitch could use 3 for a Thames panorama. However, results are not perfect as Autostitch needs a bit more overlap for the pictures to be blended smoothly (with good brightness adjustment). Still a good demonstration ...

Great shots Maestro hope you had a good time.

Dont believe Rochie, Les Bride the only connection between the london eye and an airliner is that it was payed for by British Airways and because of this as an advertising gimmic they call them flights not rides. Ill agree with Rochie on the prices though £15.50 a pop is a bit steep I believe over 3 million people have had a ride since 2000 when it opened so it should be a lot cheaper than that

Very cool, did you check out any of the cool museums?

Sure !

I went to the Imperial War Museum (took about 175 pictures there), Churchill's Cabinet War Room, HMS Belfast, the Tower of London...

I also visited Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Saint-James Palace and of course, Saint-Paul's Cathedral. However, I wasn't allowed to take indoor pictures there...

Geez... I even asked to a monk a special permission to take a snapshot of the Unknown Soldier's grave at Westminster Abbey, I got turned down.

Here we go with a few more pictures ! Let's start with the IWM...

th_51864_IWM_01_123_25lo.png

As you can see, I really choose the *good* time to go there as about half of the city was under repair... Including the IWM ! The equipment was covered by a painted canvas so everyone would know that the Museum was still open. However, you can see the scaffolding around the dome.

Now, that is the first thing you see when you get in the hall... Impressive !

Now, was it Uncle Sam's "I Want You" poster that inspired Earl Kitchener's poster or the opposite, I think we'll never know...
