User name: T Bolt
Name: Glenn
Category: 2, Intermediate
Kit: Tamiya 1/48 Bf-109E-3
Scale: 1/48th.
Modifications: The Tamiya Bf109E-3 will be modified to make it a BF109E-1
Accessories: Aero Master Decals, True details resin wheels and possibly a vacuformed canopy

This is my first entry for the Battle of Britain Group Build. It is a Messerchmitt BF109E-1 of Jg 54 in France involved in the tail end of the battle The Tamiya kit is the E-3 model so I will be converting it to a E-1. The Camo is what sold me on this particular aircraft. It’s rather complicated so I will be practicing my airbrush skills before doing it. I hope to start the project in the next week or so after my Cold War and Kursk builds are completed

Nice one Glenn. As discussed in our PMs, you'll need the later style canopy, as fitted as standard to the E4. The kit has the earlier canopy, fitted from the B to E. Should be a little bit of a challenge to do that cammo pattern !

I'm probably going to do the fourth one on the decal sheet, 109E-4/B, Erganzungsgruppe JG54, Cazaux France, 1942 as I have another 109E in my stash.

I totaled it up today and right now the 109s in the group build make up 50% of the entries!

In my castle....
Will probably do a Spitfire or a Hurricane as well me think, to even out the odds.... Since someone is already doing my squadron, the No. 74, ;) I might throw in a Hurricane from the 'my' other Squadron, the No. 111 or one from the Czech Squadrons....see what happens.

Also, no '111, '110.....

Go ahead and do a spit from No 74 Jan, I'm doing 2 109s from JG 54 and probably a Hurricane from No. 85.

I had a feeling this GB would be heavy on '109s, and I'm just as guilty ! But I already have 1/32nd scale Spit and Hurricane in BoB markings, and don't want more at the moment. I will be doing a 1/48th Hurricane though, from 312 Czech Squadron, and probably some others, outside of the GB, inlciuing a Ju87 and a Bf110. Eventually, there'll be a D017, He111 and a Spit, to replace the ones lost or wrecked over the years since 1980, so that I'll have my 1/48th scale BoB collection back as a complete set, minus the Defiant and Blenheim Mk1.

The kit came yesterday and I got started on it today.
12 ) The two main sprues
3 ) Aero Master decals, Kit decals, True Details resin wheels, and squadron canopy
4 ) The under wing bulge for the cannon that has to be removed to make the 109E-3 model into a 109E-1
5 ) Bulge removal under way
6 ) The ugly holes that remained
78 ) The removed bulges were glued into the holes from the back side and will be filled with thick superglue and sanded to match the under wing profile
9 ) I also started painting, spraying the cockpit interior parts RLM 02 and then giving them a bleak wash.
