This blade was retrieved from the sea by a fisherman (in Brittany / Penmarch)
can you help identify it ?

It's a three blade Hamilton Standard propeller. Could be A-20, B-17, B-24, C-47.

It is a Hamilton Stardard 23E50 hydromatic but unless you can clean up the steel parts and extract some part numbers off them no one will be able to provide much help.

The numbers on the hub will narrow the field down to probably around a dozen props but no more. To narrow it down further you need the blade design numbers.

If you could take it apart and read the numbers on the blade (unlikely) and pitch change cams you will not get much more detail and narrow the search considerably but even then there were some blades that were used on multiple aircraft..

I just realised it should be possible to identify the engine type by better photos of the reduction gear remains attached. That will reduce the field much quicker I suspect.

R-1820 was fitted to some DC-3s, some Hudsons, B-17s, etc

R-1830 was fitted to some DC-3s, some Hudsons, some Beauforts, B-24s, etc

Merlin was fitted to Lancs, Spits, some Beaufighters, etc

Good work.

That reduces the types to those with Merlins and I am pretty sure those are feathering cams so that rules out all single engine types.

Michael Hope will be able to confirm or correct my statement on the cams as he is still working on props.

The different type of Hamilton Standard cams. From the original image it appears to be a Standard cam profile.
The standard cam was used on the 23E50-473 which is what the DC-3/C-47 used as well as many other aircraft.
Can the diameter of the propeller be measured as it would give a better indication of the possible aircraft usage? Props that were 11 foot 6 inches, including B-17, B-24, C-47/DC-3. A 13 foot, would be C-54/DC-4, Lancaster, to name a few.
