One night we were returning from a training flight a member of the crew suggested we buzz New Orleans, LA. we were located west of the city and decided we would go down Canal Street. This is one of the main streets through the down town area. So we had a go at it at a very low level. When passing the Roosevelt Hotel we were level with their roof top sign. This was on a Saturday and we made front page headlines in the Sunday morning paper. The Air Force launched an unsuccessful investigation. Thank goodness this took place prior to the aircraft identification being added to the under surface of the wing,

They were very different times Bill. There were all sorts of tales of planes "beating up" various locations, glad you got away with it. My favourite was the first time an aircraft flew over my region, Two guys who saw it were "sore afraid" and ran to the nearest church to seek redemption, they believed they had been visited by the devil himself and that the day of judgement was upon them, It was about 1910 as I remember which shows how quickly things changed.

And then there was the Hurricane pilot flying over an amorous couple in a punt around Cambridge, he buzzed them until the guy fell out into the water trying to get his trousers back on.
