hey guys placed the question on LEMB but they can be slow maybe you guys can jump on this with your references. am looking into several documents of a former pilot flying one of these oversized "Boots".

am looking to see if Recon gruppe SAGr 130 had a personal insignia/wappenshield. . . . ? formerly unit 706.

many thanks.

This is from page 61 of Luftwaffen Embleme 1939-1945 by Ketley Rolfe.

Hope it helps!

thanks VB this is the old 2./706 emblem. does the book contain other images of 1./SAGr 130 or the 3rd staffel by chance ?

E ~

Afraid not, but they did have a brief blurb about them:

"Staffel im juni 1943 als 1./SAGr 125 aufgestellt und schließlich im juli d.j. umbenannt in 2./SAGr 130"

Crude translation:
"Squadron in June 1943 as a 1 ./ SAGr 125 set up and renamed in the end in July d. j. in 2 ./ SAGr 130"

I'll post the Shields for SAGr 125 as well, they look alike but not exact:

post away with the images but let me make a small correction though as your reference is incorrect.

2./706 was reformed from 1./SAGr 125. 2./706 was then designated on July 13, 1943 as 2./SAGr 130 and based at Trondheim and Tromso till Januar of 45 when the units personnel and Bv 138C's were moved to another staffel in the North.

I have 3 documents to a 2./706 pilot coming from Germany and then his Recon clasp with SAGr 130. will post later and this is the basis for my inquiry...........

thanks

It does state this for 2/706 on page 84.
"Im Holzschuh fliegender pinguin mit fernrohr unter einem flügel. Staffel im Juni 1943 als 1./sagr 125 aufgestellt, später wie eingangs erwähnt benannt und schließlich im Juli 1943 umbenannt in 2./SAGr 130. BV 138"

Using online translator:
"In the wood shoe of flying penguin with telescope under a wing. Squadron in June 1943 as a 1 ./ sagr 125 set up, named later like from the outset mentioned and renamed in the end in July 1943 in 2 ./ SAGr 130." BV 138

The shield they show for 2/706 is exactly the same as the one posted for the 2/130. Would it be possible that they kept the shield?

I would think this would be natural as the 706 unit dissolved and became the base for the 2nd staffel of SAGr 130 so the insignia shield would of transferred over. SAGr gruppen have a bizarre history as the insignia you gave seemed to have been al,so on 1./SAGr 130 craft though I need 100% positive confirmation on this, 1./SAGr 130 also changed designations with 2./SAGR 131 so for that staffel much confusion.

Erich,

I've gone through all my books that I have and the closest I can get is the pic below:

I did find actual pics of the 2./130 Shield and it is the same as the 706.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

thanks VB as said before I will post some interesting pics soon. at present it appears the penguin and clog/telescope was widely used at least for the gruppen that served in the cold North
