I came across this fantastic picture and have been stonewalled on finding any information about the pilot and the plane. Any help identifying the pilot and or the type of plane this is. Thank you!

It is the Republic P-47D-22-RE Thunderbolt. Actually, the type ( U. S. ARMY - P 47D-22-RE ) can be found in the second line of the aircraft data plate in the last enlarged shot above. The code "I 7" identifies the 493rd Fighter Squadron of the 48th Fighter Group. See the first image below. The later squadron markings were , the blue on the engine cowling and the red & white checkerboard and tail rudder . Below an example of the squadron P-47D-30-RA Thunderbolt in the late markings.

Yep ... and here ... Captain Charles S.Snider with P-47D, I7-E , s/n. 42-25902 named "Frosty".

Also I found that the P-47D s/n. 42-25902 was crashed on August 8th 1944 during landing at Deux Jumeaux (A-4) airfield in France. Additionally please pay your attention to the first image in my first post above. In the shot you may notice the another P-47D coded I7-E but of the different serial (42-26066). The underlined "E" letter indicates the second plane of the code in the squadron.
