At first glance it looked like a retractable tail wheel. It is hard to gauge the size without a ruler to measure the tire and strut size. Of course a Maurader didn't have a tail wheel. More info might help.

Thank you so much! It seems a consensus it's not from a B26 which relegates this aircraft type not relevant to the core pursuit of the B26 wreck. Amazing to find two planes almost atop one another! All the best Eric
 
Not any PBY that I know of but there were several versions so maybe though it looks far too small.
It certainly could be the nose gear from some other type.
A photo with dimensions and/or the markings on the tyre would help - eg 800x8 6ply and on some tyres there is a date of manufacture also.
Going by the size of the feet in the photo the tyre is not that large and there is no sign of a tube inside the tire (though that could be camera angle) so it could well be a nose gear from a modern light aircraft or the tail wheel off a much larger aircraft.
