Finally, after along time, I'm in the position to spend some of the folding stuff on me...no-one else, just me , myself and I. Nope, not being selfish, just need to 'pamper' my needs for a bit !!

    Great !

    Wrong !

Problem is, I have a few choices and I'm absolutely stumped on which on to choose . Grrrrrrr

    Choices =
    1. Buy a van to transport the '51 around in
    2. Buy the camera lens I've always wanted
    3. Go to Reno for the 50th Anni of the races
    4. Spend two weeks on a 'once in a lifetime' aviation experience
    5. Go for a flight in a Mustang

or 6....buy a new cooker and bathroom suite for the house !!!

    Rightyho, lets see...

Option 1, buy a van to transport my '51 around.
Advantages = no hassle with borrowing, hiring trailers. Everything in one place and easy to look after, similar fuel consumption to my truck when not towing, and I have somewhere to sleep and live when at a show.
Disadvantages = extra cost to tax, MOT and insure, just to lug around my pride and joy, need to find somewhere to park up when not in use and probably wont be used more than 10 time a year.

Option 2, Buy the camera lens I've always wanted.
Advantages = I get the full frame of the subject I want to take pics of, I get to look like a seasoned 'pro' with a hugely expensive lens, And I have a lens that will do every thing I need of a lens for all the future airshows I'm going to go to, and I get to post better pics for you guys to look at :)
Disadvantages = Might need to replace my current camera to get the best out of the lens. Need another camera with a close up lens as I dont want to keep having to swap lens lens all the time to take the pics I want

    3. Go to Reno for the 50th Anni of the races
Advantages = Never been but having seen and heard the stupendous soundtrack from the unlimited in the Gold races, plus get the chance to go around the 'pits for those all important close-ups
Disadavantages = need the lens from option 2.

    4. Spend two weeks on a 'once in a lifetime' aviation experience
Advantages = get to do something I have never done before but would absolutely remember for the rest of my life
Disadavantages = cant tell you guys whats involved cos I know you'll all be jealous as h*ll :)

    5. Go for a flight in a Mustang
    Advantages = H*ll, it's a Mustang flight...what more is there to say !!!
Disadvantages = Not sure if to do it in the States or here in the Uk. £1000.00 for an hour here in the Uk, but considerably less in the US but then have to add the price of flights and accom to get there !

6....buy a new cooker and bathroom suite for the house !!!
Advantages = As I do all the food shopping and cooking for the family, I get to play with a cooker that'll do everything I've always wanted a cooker to do...you know, 6 gas rings, wok capability, huge oven and makes me look like a real chef... and the bathroom...well no problems, just needs a complete tear down and rebuild anyway :)
Disadvantages = need to completely re-modelled the kitchen to get it installed and a few weeks off to strip and rebuild the bathroom

What to do chaps ?...over to you for ideas...

Well, '6' is definitely out - you can't cook on all six rings, and the oven, at once, and if you can, then your house is crowded!
'1' sounds practical, but getting a van can be done next year, or maybe look at a trailer and decent tent?
'2' A camera lens is a camera lens, however good it is. Would you use it enough, and get the results you want often enough, to justify changing everything? Maybe keep what you have, and consider a decent 'bridge' camera for the incidental/close up work, at a very small fraction of the cost.
'3' Sounds enticing, but will cost you the change of camera equipment also, and, when it's over, just like any other show, it's over.
'5' Is, of course, extremely tempting! But whether here or the 'States, it's one hour from the rest of your life you'll remember for a long time, which, in the end, will cost the same, more or less.
So, that leaves '4', the 'Once in a lifetime' thing, lasting two weeks. Just the time spent at this mysterious activity seems to balance out above all else.
I'd go for '4', with '5' and '3' as next choices, in that order.

#4, as 50 years from now when you slip your earthly bounds, the people attending your funeral will wonder what that grin on your face is all about.

Sounds like #4 is the one.

When I'm spending a lot of money on just me, I always try to decide what gives me the most bang for the buck. #2 and #6 you will get to use over and over for years to come. But a 2 week long, once in a lifetime, aviation experience seems like a no brainer! The Mustang ride, while that would be something magical, it's over in 30 minutes or an hour.

now if #4...the flight adventure was a few days of aerial combat training with the last day being several hours of mock dogfighting.....hmmmmm that would tempt me. just depends on what you will have the least likelihood of every being able to do again.
