Counterpart to Napier Sabre?

Was there a german engine that was comparable to the Napier Sabre
in weight and dimensions whilst also having similar
development/power potential?

I would guess the DB 604.

Certainly the 604 was probably ahead on power output when it was cancelled in 1942.

The power output figures I found on the net for the
Sabre are very much better (3500+) than those of the
DB 604 (2500+).

Napier didn't anywhere near 3500+ horsepower out of a Sabre in 1942. If we compare where the Sabre and the DB604 were in 1942, they were about even on horsepower. Napier did get 3500 HP out of the Sabre, but that didn't happen until nearly V-E day. I am sure the Luft46 guys would tell us the DB 604 would have been 'neck and neck' for power with the late model Sabres if development had continued past 1942 into 1945.

I would suggest that the Jumo 222 was another German equivalent of the Sabre.

Except the Sabre actually worked.

While the Sabre had more than it's share of problems compared to some engines when compared to the Jumo 222 it was a paragon of reliability.
