I saw once an aircraft crash right before me. It took off but i heard the engine missing and run rough and then a bit later die. In stead of pushing nose down and gain speed, pilot lifted nose in i think attempt to go back to runway.
Stalled so..

Never made it.

Luckily no fire, low speed impact. Fire brigade was there in lightspeed.
All were well.

Turned out to be pilot error not locking primer handle iirc, wich caused the engine to drown in fuel.

There is a risks in ancient airplanes we like, by flying them.
Not only for the owners pilots and ground crew, but all involved in producing an airshow.

I remember that time well, Terry, three historic aircraft were lost in a two week period, the Mossie, the Fighter Collection's P-38 and the last flying Bristol Freighter in the UK. I had driven down from Scotland with friends and my girlfriend and we planned on doing a round of airshows, including Flying Legends and RIAT. We saw the Mossie at Legends, which was its last but one airshow display. Here it is taxying out at Legends, note the Lysander in the air. We watched the P-38 fly into the ground, which was pretty awful to see.
