Did (used) aircraft engines get sent back to the USA?

During WW2, where used aircraft engines ever sent from the front lines, back to the USA for something like rebuilding (or other)?
Or did they just leave worn out engines in the field (like piled behind the repair shed)?

In Australia used Allisons were overhauled at Eagle Farm in Brisbane and Pratts at CAC at Fishermans Bend in Melbourne or Lidcombe in Sydney. I do not know who did the Wrights.
I would expect one or more overhaul shops at least in the UK and in India.

All of the major theatres had engine overhaul facilities, with factory support for parts and technical issues.
However some engines were returned to CONUS for overhaul and modernization.
For example, the McClellan Air Depot in Sacramento, CA had responsibility to support engines in the Pacific and Asia. Many of their overhauls were of engines returned from operational theatres.

Attached is a booklet on GMH doing Allisons. Apparently they also did Pratts in Breakfast Creek later in the war.

CAC also manufactured R-1340 and R-1830 engines under licence and exported the latter to the US for installation in Lockheed Hudsons.
