The RAAF operated 34 Ryan STM trainer planes in WWII, all being ex-Dutch machines evacuated from the NEI's when that island was invaded. These aircraft served in various training units throughout Australia as communication, liaison and general "hack" aircraft.

The aircraft I intend to model will be A50-12 which crashed in June 44 resulting in it being written off. I'll be using Red Roo model RAAF serials and generic RAAF roundels to achieve this. The model itself will be built OOB with the only extras being rigging wires (dread). The model is very basic, with there being only 4 steps in the instruction booklet! Should be a fairly quick build. :)

Thanks guys. Here is a profile pic of A50-12 from the book "Ryan STM in Netherlands East Indies and Australian service" by Gary Byk Kevin Kerle.

Excellent Choice :D I think the Japanese had something similar that they captured from the Dutch :D (although I'm no expert on these aircraft and it is an interesting mount :D so I can't say for sure either way :D)

Thanks guys. Igor it's mentioned in the book I posted above that "numerous" examples were used by the Japanese but it doesn't go into any great detail unfortunately. As to the model I have painted the interior and glued the fuselage halves together and fitted the front engine cowl. I left the interior bare as in my collection it will never be seen anyway. Have I mentioned for a 1/48 scale model this bird it tiny! That's a 20c coin its sitting on.
