How's this work for you
Thanks Don!
This is the photo I'm mostly interested in:

Is it an optical illusion or is it real that the opening of the Monogram model is bigger? I'm actually after a comparison of cowl rings and the cowl ring openings. Do you have a micrometer to measure both openings?

But don't worry too much - no hurry! Just interested what they are doing. I know the original size of the cowl opening. Sometimes they look so different on real planes:

If you remember Accurate Miniatures were heavily criticized because of their B-25B/C/D cowlings. In fact their opening was correct in size but the form of the cowl ring was wrong. Monogram has the best form of the cowl ring so far (to my knowledge) but before any comparison with HKModels.
Cheers, Don!

Ok so I've settled on the subject matter for the build. #45th BG 499th BS B-25J-11 43-36174 My Dutchess. November 25th 1944 was assigned to 1Lt Newton E. Wiley> Aircraft was was damaged in a taxing accident July 1945.

At first I thought it was a hard nosed J but upon closer examination it is a glazed nose straffer. Fist noted by the artwork on the cover of the Squadron Signal publication Walk Around B-25 Mitchell, I did close examination (as I don't trust artwork), I have found it to be as depicted.

I think the whisky helped!

The Pro Modeler decals.

started spitting inside paint. Vallejo Light interior green.

A plan is coming together............
Each of the four squadrons of the 345th was assigned a color code, 498th (Falcons) Yellow, 499th blue. The original bat face and wings were in a pale blue. As time went on it went to a darker blue closer to insignia blue. The bat face and wings went to black. By the time the H and J models were issued in late 44 this was the scheme.
Dirty Dora B-2%C/D (sorry didn't have time to look it up) in the early pale blue (PRU blue)

My Dutchess engine cowling a dark blue and bat is black.

Your input is always appreciated and welcome. You have some of the most in-depth knowledge of the subject matter on the forum. Keep it coming please.
Your too kind and well I make mistakes as well. Yves is the true master of the B-25. I will be up for a maybe an hour more then have to hit the hay. I have to go to work tonight

May I suggest, you get to go to work tonight. Not everyone has a job who would like to have one. You have the opportunity to take care of yourself and your family because you have a job. Be thankful for what you've been given.

Don, IMHO the bat is the same as the cowl ring, ergo dark (insignia) blue. I saturated the colours of your photo on purpose and the blue shows better:

You Paul shows a picture from a book (page 207) where the blue is clearly shown as well.
The hatch (used to load the guns etc.) is black and differs. It's in metal, not glass anymore and attached with crews from the outside. (I posted photos of this detail in the "Weapons"-tread I believe).

This posses an issue as the decals are black. Everything I've ever seen looks black but from the squadron history the bat should be in squadron colors. Humm what to do now!!
Thanks Yves, much appreciated, grumble grumble grumble….

Don, there have been bats in the same squadron in black as well - you are right. Mostly those with the 8-guns noses. But they look differently in the b&w photos, compared to your bird.

And the better colour photo you posted earlier is undoubtedly dark blue (for my eyes). It's just my opinion, not that I have a 100% proof. You can still go with what you have.

I do agree with you, but I can't paint that in blue. I really want to do it but I'll have to do black. All the profiles show it in black but I trust profile art as much as I do decals.
