Here my first presumption :

It could be an aircraft of Jagdgeschwader JG 26, because a Fw 190 with a nearby Werknummer was lost in the same region and same time frame.

JG 26 Casualty on 17.08.1944 :

Leutnant Hans Rösen - 6./JG 26 - WNr.: 170976 - Black 1 - near Chartres-Dreux - Reason : Light Flak

170972 was an A-8 built at Focke Wulf Cottbus around May-June 1944.

so small is the world.
On another forum the same announcement were made and they were very quick with the answer :
Gefr. Walter Gehr, Fw 190 A8 werk 170972, " 4 white" , of the 4. /JG1 who was MIA the 20th July 1944
