Side comments are frequent here, especially when they are interesting or amusing and lead only to temporary side trips.
I might have mentioned the Panther and Cougar being totally different airplanes yet bearing the same F9F identifier. Ditto the F-84 Thunderjet and Thunderstreak, both F-84s and yet totally different. But somebody else beat me to it, so I let it slide. But I also held off on mentioning that the F-4 Phantom was often cited as proof that, given enough power, one could make a brick fly.
