GB-65 1/48 CF-188 Hornet 410 Cougars - No Propellers

I bought this kit back in 1992 with a view to building a CF-188 Hornet but, other than a quick dabble I never got into it. I made an attempt to enter it Waaaaaaay back in GB#6 but lost interest.

The kit and contents:

With the participants' permission I'd like to resurrect it for this GB, even though a few parts have been assembled (some won't even be used). They are:

Engine cones glued in place:

External Fuel Tank halves glued together (won't be used)
Laser Guided Bombs assembled (won't be used)
Cockpit together and painted, kinda sorta. Still need seat belts added.
Main wheel halves glued together
Canopy PE mirrors glued on, but f!cked up so will need to be redone
Side panels on canopy frame added and painted
One Laser Pod assembled but will need to be modified since pod won't be used.

The subject, if permitted, will be CF-188 s/n 188762 of 410 Cougar Squadron in the 1995 50th Anniversary of VE Day livery as seen here

To achieve this, I'll be using the Leading Edge decal set #48.36

The kit is quite basic and has since been eclipsed by the dedicated Kinetic offering so there will need to be mods galore. I'll be using this site as a reference as well. Fortunately, I downloaded the pictures before they disappeared from the site and I may add them during the course of the build to describe what I'm doing.

Does the kit have provision for the searchlight. I have a newer version and now searchlight. Still got RCAF Cougar Squadron decals

No light Geo but it's an easy add. I need to check if this one actually had the light or just the blanked out lens.

Reviving a model from the forgotten boxes!!!, that's great... on the waiting list I have a CF18 with a very very striking decoration with the maple leaf, which caught my attention when I saw it...

Still going through my notes of what mods need to be done to the kit. I will definitely need to add the full (not blanked off) search light as shown in a photo of the port side of my bird found here. Just working through the various antenna options to see what I need to add or remove.

The other major decision is whether, or not, to pose the flaps and leading edge slats in the down position. Almost every photo pf a parked CF-188 has them like that but this will add a considerable amount of work to this project though it would make for a much more interesting model in my opinion. I will also be on a time constraint as I will be away from my bench for a month starting later this week. So, you wont be seeing much, if anything, on this build til mid March at the earliest.
