BAe/Sepecat Jaguar GR.3A, 6 Sqn RAF, Coltishall, 2006.

Username - Airframes
Name - Terry
Category - Judge, non-competing
Kit - Heller (Airfix) Jaguar GR.1/GR.3
Scale - 1/48th
Accessories - Some NeOmega resin cockpit parts, Master brass pitot tube, Master Casters resin main wheels, parts from the spares box and other kits, some scratch-building, decals from kit and Xtradecal.

The second Jaguar build is to be the up-graded GR.3A variant, using the Heller kit from 2012, originally released by Airfix in 1994. (not the new Airfix kit)
This will represent an aircraft from 6 Sqn, RAF, during the final two years of service, in the overall grey colour scheme.
Again, some alterations and additions will be made, to be illustrated and described during the course of this thread, and, like the ESCI model, it will be displayed in a "mini diorama", with a pilot on board, and seen "taxiing out" under the guidance of a marshal. This decision has been made due to the configuration of the intake auxiliary doors on this kit, as described in the ESCI build thread.
(NOTE:- anyone intending to use this kit check the Heller instructions carefully, as there are some vague areas and errors. For example, the colour scheme drawings show the camouflaged 54 Sqn aircraft as being from 42 Sqn, and the decal colours are slightly dubious).

Pics below show the nice Heller box art (with RAF Coltishall in the background), and the 6 Sqn subject aircraft (in the foreground - pic from Target Aviation).

More to follow soon ..............

The first job on the Heller kit, is to remove the instrument panel coaming, as this will be replaced with a resin item, and instrument panel, from the NeOmega cockpit set. This needs to be done before progressing further, in order to check the fit of these parts in conjunction with the Heller cockpit parts, and ensure that the completed cockpit will fit into the fuselage as required.
Pics below show the fuselage halves with the engraved surface detail, and the area that needs to be accurately removed.

Back soon(ish)...................
