This droptank is offered me to buy and according to the seller is it a Me-109 300 ltr droptank, on closer inspection I noticed that the tank only has 2 attachment points instead of 4 and no tank cap or 2 petrol tubes. i never seen that before...any idea what that could be ?

German drop tanks were standardized and could be carried by multiple types. I can't explain the presence of only 2 lugs for the stabilizers but the attachment strap looks genuine. Also, only one side is shown so it's hard to tell if there was further damage that could explain the apparent lack of a filler cap or the other two lugs.

It does look dropped.

that's my impression too ... there are also several bullet holes too big for a 9mm, rather a point 50

It has the right general construction for a 300l drop tank, the right number of segments for a start, though the welding around the front join is much cruder than usual.

There are parts that would make it a useable drop tank, at least on the Bf 109 as claimed, which are missing, and the various holes don't match up with where they should be.

I can't account for any of the features arrowed below.

It certainly looks like a genuine artefact, whether it was ever used as a drop tank might be another question.

indeed looks like a real WWII item, but I wouldn't know what the purpose should be,
maybe a test tank for the wind tunnel. I'll get more detail photos soon, maybe things will
become clear then, thanks for the input so far......

New photo explains a few things, the 2 remaining suspension points, petrol hole and the
2 petrol pipes are clearly visible.
So luckily a standard 300 ltr. droptank

Now to agree on a good price...,what is a reasonable price for this tank in this condition?

thanks for the input and photos

Kindly regards, Andre
