Lieutenant General
from Guy Ritchie to shoot WW2 TV drama "The Few" about elite RAF servicemen
GUY RITCHIE made his name by making London gangster movies.
And the subjects of the movie director's upcoming project are also pretty handy in a gunfight — but they did the business in the sky.
Guy is working on a new TV series — called The Few — about a group of elite RAF servicemen who fought in the Second World War.
The subject is close to Guy's heart as he has strong military roots. His grandfather, Major Stewart Ritchie, died in action on the battlefields of France in 1940.
A source said: "Guy is really excited about the project. He can't wait to put his stamp on it.
"He's always been interested in the military, so telling the story of these heroes was something he would love to bring to a new audience.
"It could be as big as Band Of Brothers."
The new TV drama will not be based on the book called The Few, but an original idea by Guy's producing partner, LIONEL WIGRAM and it will be written by TOM BUTTERWORTH and CHRIS HURFORD.
The Few were the fighter aircrew of the RAF who saved Britain from the threat of invasion from Nazi Germany in 1940.
Their title was taken from the legendary speech delivered by PM WINSTON CHURCHILL in the House of Commons.
He said: "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." Guy has had previous success making films concerning British greats with his producer pal Lionel.
Their two movies featuring SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE's Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson starred ROBERT DOWNEY JNR and did very well at the box office globally.
Imagine how well a movie about another legendary British duo would do if Guy managed to get them on board.
