Hello everyone,

I was given this object as a gift. It comes from the crash site of the USAAF B-29 Superfortress "Over Exposed", which tragically came down on Bleaklow in the Peak District on 3 November 1948.
I am not an aircraft expert, but this object has become very important to me, and I would really like to understand exactly what it is and what its function was on the aircraft.
The piece looks like a corroded metal bracket or frame with several cut-outs and a knurled knob. I would like to know from which part of the plane it came, and what its precise use would have been.
I have attached several pictures of the item. If anyone has knowledge about B-29 components or can point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.
Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Kind regards
mangocrab

It looks like the remains of a Battery tray to my eyes. Or possibly a quick change electrical panel mounting plate, such as for a generator control panel. Or radio transmitter or receiver mount.

Thanks for the input. Is there any way I could narrow it down more precisely? Thanks again!
