History Fair

All right, my little bro has to do a history fair project next year and the theme is "triumph and tragedy", not necessarilly in that order. And he was wondering if you guys know a good event in WW2 that involved "triumph and tragedy".



Also do you know any veterans, one of your relatives was a veteran, are a WW2 historian, or even know any good books on WW2? If you do can you please post the info on this thread or PM me it. Thanks.
