This is called a homoglyph attack (also called homograph attack), where you replace one character with a similar looking one (sometimes from unicode, which covers all languages and is supported worldwide).
But it doesn't have to be unicode, you can for example replace lowercase L with a uppercase I and vice versa.

Always be cautious and double-check links before clicking.
 
Quite a few lowercase letters in the cyrillic alphabet can be used as well as some from the Greek alphabet.

While they appear the same, the unicode referenced by the computer system responds to that character instead.
