No, I'm not posting a list, but Australia's triple J radio has been doing the countdown, in part all week. it's been very very outstandingly good! It's all listener voted, so not some music "expert" deciding. Wisdom of the commons prevails! They had over 500,000 votes.

You can stream it here triple j

Today they're doing 100 - 51, 2moro is 50 - 1.

Highly recommended! I've heard it down to number 20 through the week, and I'm loving it.

This is how it panned out in the end. Smells like Nirvana was expected, but I was still annoyed, it's by far not the best Nirvana song put together - but it is the anthem for a whole generation. The rest of the countdown was very good though, a whole weekend of great music. A few surprises, but most of it was about expected.

The results would vary dramatically depending on which radio station was doing it, but for me, and most of my generation (90's child), this was pretty definative.

Ugh...not at all the "best of"...

There's some great songs, most certainly, but that's not even the best song by The Prodigy..."Smack My Bitch Up" or "Spitfire" is far better...the Beastie Boys had far better songs...this almost looks like a B side list. At least "Kasmir" made it on the list, which is far better than the dreaded "Stairway to Heaven".

Again, don't get me wrong, there's a good deal of great songs here, but I think it could have been alot better. :|

Yeah. I take it for what it is, a user-voted list. So you're not going to keep everyone happy.

So with a grain of salt, I think it was spot on(ish)

My personal top 100, even my top 10, would be completely different, and no one would probably listen to it

Gotta side with Adler on this one. Nirvana and RATM are #1 and #2? hmmmmmmmmm. Not to mention the rest of it. I understand it's all personal taste, but come on!

Yeah funny thing though regardless of iq points and actual intelligence is we are dealing with a popular radio playlist here. Much of which I think is fair in regards to what else is out there.

The artists that made the top 20 had better songs than those picked. I can think of 5 better Pink Floyd songs. "Jeremy" for Pearl Jam. Thats just for starters. The list is just the commercial hits and really doesn't reflect any of those bands true gems. IMHO. :)

Would you believe.... that out of the first 30, I've never heard a one of them, and [with the exception of the Beatles, and Michael Jackson]
never heard of the artist !!!!

I guess I live a sheltered life, or I need to quit listening to Channel 4 on satillite radio [The Fabulous 40's]

Guess I'm too old.....

Charles

Let me quess.....

"Pardon me boys, is that the Chattanoga choo-choo......"

"Pennsylvania Six Five Thousand!"

or one of my personal favorites...

"There was a boy, a very strange, enchanted boy....."

:)

You got it, Chris. Glenn Miller, with Tex Beneke on vocal did the first, Miller also did the second,
and Nat "King" Cole did the last. My favorite kinda music.

Heard one this morning, on the PA system in the super market.... Something about "There's a bathroom on the right".
Strange song, indeed..... I think it was done by Creedence Clearwater.

Charles

I believe it has to do a lot with the demagraphics of that particular radio staion and the genre of music because very few of those songs are on my radio stations playlist and is their top 20

2 Pink Floyd • Comfortably Numb
3 The Beatles • Hey Jude
4 Queen • Bohemian Rhapsody
5 Led Zeppelin • Kashmir

8 Pink Floyd • Wish You Were Here
9 The Beatles • A Day In The Life
10 The Rolling Stones • Sympathy For The Devil
11 Lynyrd Skynyrd • Sweet Home Alabama

Charles, its a guilty pleasure for me! I have about 5 Nat "King" Cole CD's and....almost every Beethoven symphany. :)

Pb, you gotta stop listening tp WKRP Rock Hits of the 70's!! Change the channel to some Stone Temple Pilots, Chickenfeet, U-2, Kid Rock, Metallica, etc. :)
