Brutal looking. I can't even fathom the feeling one got travelling through it
This does not appear to be "target flak" because the aircraft are to strung out. It also looks a little low to be to damaging. However, it would get your attention.

Hi Bill,
Great 303BG flak photo B-17 Formation in Thick Flak did a fold3.com photo search for this image trying to determine when and where it was taken, Sadly it was not found.
Scott........The photo was submitted by Joseph C. Sassone, co-pilot, 359th. The photo angle could be from his position. Unable to find his exact time there but appears to be during the 12/43 - 03/44 period.

Bill,
A search for 2nd Lt Joseph C Sassone here 303rdBG Custom Search Results likely not an accurate mission total but finding him from mission No. 109; 20 Feb 44 to mission No. 164; 29 May 1944.

Then there is this tidbit 303rd Guest Comments (01 October 2007 - 31 March 2008) see

Unknown to me, a family member scouted the 303bg site and alerted me to it. I found it most interesting, definitely a trip down memory lane. I have just a couple of additions according to my records. Also, I have a several photos not seen on web, possibly of interest - 1) B-17-F and crew taken stateside prior to leaving for Molesworth (Elmer Young, P.), 2) four strike photos provided to me by the intelligence officer, as follows: initial daylight Berlin raid, Dijon (24 Dec '43), Poznan, Poland and Marienburg, Prussia . In addition, there are a few photos in my album of B-17 damage from missions. Please let me know if there is anything you find of interest.

Leading here Elmer W. Young Crew which offers a more complete time frame and mission history for Lt Sassone.

2Lt Joseph C. Sassone (CP) - All missions flown as Co Pilot. Four missions flown with the Capt Young Crew - #92, 94, 97, 98. Other missions flown with nine other Pilots: Daub (3) - #104, 136, 137; Eisenhart (4) - #109,110, 113, 125; Goolsby (5)- #112, 116, 124, 132, 142; Stoulil (1) - #115; Blossom (2) - #118, 119; Hybert (1) - #120; Marsh (1)- #134; Newell (1) - #143(LC); Lt Edwin H. Assenheimer (10) - #126, 127, 128, 129, 130(LC), 131, 139, 141, 144, 164). 30 mission combat tour completed on 29 May 1944.

As such mission No. 92 on 24 Dec 1943 was his first http://www.303rdbg.com/missionreports/092.pdf and Mission No. 164 29 May 1944 http://www.303rdbg.com/missionreports/164.pdf completed his tour.

Related back to the *FLAK* photo it could have been taken at any time during this 6 month deployment but at least we know the possible 30 missions in which Lt Sassone participated.
