News from the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Center, East Kirkby, Lincolnshire, UK, indicates that their Lancaster, NX611 'Just Jane' will be undergoing a complete strip-down to bare metal over the winter period, as the next stage in the plans to get her airworthy.
The Lancaster will be up on trestles, with all major components removed, such as bomb doors, turrets, control surfaces etc, whilst she is stripped to bare metal ready for inspection of the entire airframe.
The Lancaster will be open to view in this state, before being re-painted, when the work will be carried out by MAAS.
This enormous task is expected to cost around £250,000, and the Center have set up a 'Rivet Club', in addition to the 'Just Jane' Supporters Club, where donations from as little as £2 per month will be gratefully received, towards the cost of this stage of the restoration to flight.
Further details can be found at the LAHC web site.
