ExactlyCanada is already committed for 16 F-35s with an option to buy more. It's the option that's being explored but it would be pretty stupid to have 2 different fighter aircraft in a cash-strapped airforce in my opinion. The pause on the further purchase was politically driven in response to a certain protectionist stance and I'm not sure this is the bargaining chip it was once thought to be.
There are several. But note that I said "cash-strapped airforce". Canada is not the US.Well, how many countries around the world has more than one type of fighters, care to name them?

You won't find anything definitiveThere is one question which I have and admit to not having any idea as to the answer, which is important to this. That is what is the current cost of an F35?
We're not going to be canceling the full F-35 purchase. There are already millions of $ in F-35 components being produced in Canada. If PM Carney announced the cancelation or reduction of the F-35 deal, Trump would unleash a tantrum against Canada. I wouldn't be surprised if he demanded that all F-35 components and investment in Canada be repatriated, and heck in a fit of rage could demand that GDLS-C move all production back home.Canada is already committed for 16 F-35s with an option to buy more. What I find interesting in these rough comparisons, or even the more detailed ones. Is that the F15X seems to be never included. If I was SAAB I'd be worried about the Koreans grabbing the Gripen's market share with their KAI KF-21 Boramae. Much like how Hyundai's K2 Black Panther MBT must be making KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetall nervous as they flog the latest rehash of the 1970s Leopard 2.

I guess that's on the sales and marketing guys at Boeing. But to be fair, countries that are buying the Gripen or KF-21 are likely intentionally avoiding US made kit. And that begs a question, what does Boeing have to offer the market beyond rehashes of their 1970s Eagle and Hornet? The F-47 is a way off and will likely not be available or affordable to the likes of the Gripen market. What I find interesting in these rough comparisons, or even the more detailed ones. I totally agree with what you are saying but with one small alteration. I think you can replace Boeing, with USA. Most countries cannot afford an F35, so the Gripen, Typhoon, Rafael and KF21 are the only options (possibly including Chinese aircraft). You can choose your favourite, but they are all very capable aircraft and the USA seem to have abandoned this vital market.I guess that's on the sales and marketing guys at Boeing. Don't necessarily think that - in the Swiss completion the F-35 reportedly came out less expensive than the Gripen, Typhoon, Rafale and Super Hornet. Most countries cannot afford an F35, so the Gripen, Typhoon, Rafael and KF21 are the only options
Interesting I admit but I stand by my concerns. A lot has changed since 2021 including tariffs and the Swiss believing that they had a fixed price contract and the Americans equally believing that they didn't.Don't necessarily think that - in the Swiss completion the F-35 reportedly came out less expensive than the Gripen, Typhoon, Rafale and Super Hornet.

So, the Gripen's off the table for Canada. Let's get the eighty-odd F-35s asap. But I strongly suggest that Canada consider non-US sources (when available and up to the task) for future military procurement. For example, when we decide to scrap the garbage Sikorsky CH-148 Cyclones, we should look to AgustaWestland for their Merlins, like we should have done in the first place. It's remarkable how Lockheed-Martin and Boeing are embedded in our forces, including the new "destroyers".
