From what I understand, the Ju 88 A-6/U was made from the Ju 88 A-6 balloon cutter. The balloon cutter and gondola were removed and radar added. In this link;
Ju88 with FuG 200 Hohentwiel | World War Photos
is a picture of a Ju 88 with fug 200 and a gondola. Have the ground crew just not gotten around to removing the gondola? Beside what I have mentioned, what else was removed or added? Thanks in advance.

As momo serves the A-6/U had the balloon cutter removed. The plane crew was limited to the three members and added the FuG 200 Hohentwiel search radar. Additionally there were attached underwing jettisoned fuel tanks. The plane was powered with Jumo 211J or F engines. According to the pic you posted above the removed gondola wasn't the rule. Here three shots of Ju-88A-6/U without the gondola.

Hello,

These aircraft are not Ju 88 A-6 or Ju 88 A-6U as these are Ju 88 A-4 (and some D-1, besides many A-17´s) fitted with FuG 200 radar.
The A-6U designation is fiction, invented in the 1960s, and has nothing to do with Radar equipped Ju 88´s.
In fact Junkers did not use /U for any conversion, as engines were the ruling factor, after design purpose.

Proper designation for these shown is Ju 88 A-4/D (Rustgrad D, or Equipment condition D).
The A-6 (and A-8) reverted to normal A-5 (and A-4) after Heavy fenders had been cancelled.
They simply remained A-6´s (often referred to as A-5s in losses.

Best regards
Eggert
