hey guys i'm looking for an example of a significantly larger or heavier fighter that has

very comparable wing/lift/power loadings as a much lighter fighter ...

i can not think of any off hand and thought i would ask here.

any thoughts?

Fairey Fulmar II was a rather big heavy, but power- wing loading were comparable with Hurricane I values. MS-406 had also similar numbers.

Data is from Wikipedia.

P-47D
17,500 lbs loaded weight
58.3 lbs/sq foot wing loading.

P-38L.
17,500lbs loaded weight.
53.4 lbs/sq ft wing loading

Fw-190A8
9,735lbs loaded weight.
49.4 lbs/sq ft wing loading.

Ju-88G1 Night Fighter.
28,880 lbs loaded weight
49.2 lbs/sq foot wing loading.

Amazingly enough the Ju-88G night figher has lower wing loading then many other late WWII fighter aircraft.

Nothing curious about Ju-88 having favorable wing loading - the plane had bomber 'genes'. And bombers needed to have low wing loading so they could take off with plenty of bombs fuel.

In an Interceptor loading the F7F-1 had 21,000 lb for 455 Sq Ft wing = 46.15 and maxed out w/2000 pound torp and allowable fuel ---- 25,000/455 = 54.9

P-61B ---- 29,700/662 = 44.9 loaded (normal mission profile) at Gross max = 32000/662 = 48.3

P-51C had better performance

B-17G Bomber.
54,000 lbs loaded weight.
38 lbs/sq ft wing loading

Hmmm. That's a point I have never considered. 8)
