It always amazes me that the USSR had high quality colour manuals for pilots and aircraft long before the USAAF/USAF.
The Lavochkin LA-5 was introduced in July 42 and that manual is coloured and contains far more detailed graphics than in the equivalent US manuals like for the P-39 & P-40
