I think in this context, a 20mm cannon is less likely to cause collateral damage than a 30mm with depleted uranium rounds.

it's a kinder, more gentile "surgical" strafe.

Load of Crap. Fighter Mafia is trying to remain relevant in the COIN market. Nothing does it better then the A-10 for loiter time and weapon loadout unless perhaps a B52 with external stores. GAU-8 mission mix is HEI right now anyway. Bad guys aren't using t-55's right now. Only thing I would like to see and they are all gone except the boneyard is a A-7. THAT was a pure all weather attack bird.
