I saw this in a railroad group I belong to. This is in Northern Nevada near Shafter. Used to help guide airmail pilots. nearby is the Union Pacific railroad tracks. Which were also used as an aid.

Those arrows are a great reminder of early aviation. There's a few arrows that still have their beacon towers intact, too.

When I was a kid, I recall seeing an original Transcontinental map hanging in one of the airport offices - I think it may have been Fullerton.
