Last B-52H left the factory 26 Oct. 1962.

Now, now, children, don't argue. The first jet I saw was an FH-1 in 1949. I thought it was on fire because of the very black exhaust.

B-36 was retired three years before I arrived upon this mortal coil.

I was told that the sound of it's engines (in flight or taxiing) was absolutely unique, much like the C-5.

The closest to experiencing that, is watching the movie "Strategic Air Command".

I have watched that B-36 take off quite a few times now.

As a teenager I have seen them at altitude because of the throbbing sound felt when they are over head. On occasion, I thought I heard a 36 at altitude, but when I spotted it, it was a C-124. Very close in sensation.

Seen a Tu-95/Tu-142 flying a couple of times: ditto the An-22. Those fellas approach the B-36 sound.

It’s Official: The Re-Engined B-52 Will be the B-52J

As soon as they get new engines, B-52H bombers will be designated as B-52J aircraft, Air Force budget documents show.
