It's the 83rd anniversary of Admiral Lee's victory, and the Japanese acknowledging Guadalcanal was lost.

An often-overlooked event in the Solomons campaign. Japanese decide to go in whole-hog, and then get Friday the 13th with a scratch-force turning them back, and then barely 24 hours later another scratch-force sinks yet another battlecruiser.

Pull your telescope back from the island itself for a moment: the Japanese have just lost well over 2,000 sailors and two capital ships along with ancillaries. This definitely changed some minds in Tokyo.
